PIANO SOLO CORPO SOLO
“In times of violation of our bodies and freedom, of isolation and confusion, we look within to seek a deep and intimate condition with ourselves and others.”
In Piano Solo Corpo Solo, the intimate searches of two solitudes are touched upon: Piano Solo – the pieces composed and played live by Simone Graziano for prepared grand piano and Corpo Solo – Claudia Caldarano’s choreographic composition inspired by the album Embracing the future and NDEs (Near Death Experience). Simone and Claudia establish, in sound and movement, a subtle, epidermal contact with the spectator, as if it were a concert and dance for a single spectator. They perform a “Toccata” on the caress, on the tactile “play with something that is subtracted.” Together they try to “seize the moment,” to perceive that every moment is a “last moment,” so between dance and music an embrace takes place, a gesture capable of fixing in the moment the last moment, in the instant, the lasting.
The set consists of a grand piano prepared with objects from everyday life that made its sound almost unrecognizable, expanded to have the feeling of being with the head inside the instrument, and a second instrument, played by the movement of the body, a kind of extension of the piano’s tail, black, shiny, where the body is reflected, exposed, confined and at risk. The body gives the illusion of being caressed, moved, manipulated, dragged, lifted by a plurality of hands, of forces that, like a cloud of affectivity, act and move it. Protagonist is the absent, the longing for the other, the desire.
